The Basra Municipality issued a clarification regarding the video clip circulating on social media, which shows an attempt to break down the door of the clock room at Algeria Intersection in the center of the city.

The municipality confirmed in a statement followed by Al-Raya that “the man shown in the video is an employee who works as a watch guard, and he was forced to break the lock after the key was damaged and it was not possible to open the door by usual means.”

The statement stated, "This measure was necessary to ensure the continued operation of the clock system and to prevent it from being exposed to any malfunctions that might affect the workflow in the region."

The municipality explained that it "periodically monitors the maintenance and protection of public property, stressing its keenness to provide the best services to citizens."
