The Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, responded with sarcasm to the statements of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Water, Marshes, Agriculture and Water Bodies Committee, Faleh Al-Khazali, in which he held him responsible for environmental deterioration in the governorate.

It was stated in a message circulated through a WhatsApp group and followed by Al-Raya:

“By the way, brother Chairman of the Water, Marshes, Agriculture and Water Bodies Committee, the Governor of Basra is certainly considered responsible for the drying up of the Gli Ali Bek Waterfall! We may have studied it in middle school, but it seems that Mr. Representative, despite his excellence at that stage, did not pass this lesson on him... Mo Lo Mo Mo?”

Al-Eidani's statements come after MP Faleh Al-Khazali addressed a parliamentary question to the governor of Basra, asking him to reveal the fate of the funds provided to the governorate between 2018 and 2025, especially those related to the water file and improving its services.

The pace of parliamentary and local criticism regarding the water crisis and environmental pollution in Basra has recently escalated, amid an exchange of accusations between executive and supervisory authorities regarding responsibilities and mismanagement.
