The Iranian Ilam Province Police Commander, Brigadier General Jamal Salmani, announced that more than 162,000 Iranian visitors have entered Iraqi territory through the Mehran border crossing since the beginning of the month of Safar, as part of the preparations for the Arbaeen visit.
Salmani said in a press statement, followed by Al-Raya, that the Iranian authorities deployed 9 mobile police stations and activated 10 security patrols on the border crossing road with the aim of securing the movement of visitors and ensuring their safety until they cross into Iraq.
He pointed out that coordination is underway with the Iraqi security authorities through joint meetings and talks aimed at facilitating transit procedures and providing the necessary services as quickly as possible.
The Mehran port is one of the most prominent land crossings taken by Iranian visitors towards Iraq during religious occasions, especially in the months of Muharram and Safar.
