The Dean of the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Basra submitted an official complaint to the Basra Third Investigation Court, against the background of a vocal threat attributed to the son of MP Alaa Al-Haidari, after an audio clip was circulated on social media sites, which included threatening and menacing expressions directed at the dean.

According to sources who spoke to Al-Raya, the college's legal representative, in turn, submitted a complaint to the court, stressing that the registration constitutes a dangerous precedent that affects the independence and sanctity of the academic institution.

These developments come at a time when fears are rising about the penetration of political influence into educational institutions, amid calls to ensure that teaching staff are protected from any pressure or interference outside the academic context.

 In a new audio recording followed by Al-Raya, MP Al-Haidari’s son came out trying to justify his threat, saying that what he issued was motivated by “serving the people” and “defending the oppressed,” speaking in a language full of ideals, which sparked further controversy regarding the credibility of the justification and whether that would affect the course of the case before the judiciary.
