The former representative close to the Prime Minister, Sheikh Muzahim Al-Tamimi, announced that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani agreed in principle to exempt the people of Basra Governorate from paying water fees, in appreciation of their suffering due to water scarcity and high salinity.

Al-Tamimi stated in a statement followed by Al-Raya that Al-Sudani responded to his request in this regard, indicating that the decision will soon be presented to the Council of Ministers for a vote, given its need for official approval in order to begin implementing it on the ground.

Al-Tamimi explained that this measure is the least that can be provided to the people of Basra, who suffer from long years of interruption of safe water and its salinity, wondering how fair it is to continue imposing fees for a service that was not originally provided in an appropriate manner.
