The Basra Governorate Office announced the implementation of a broad logistical and service support plan to serve participants in the million-man marches heading to Holy Karbala, stressing the continuation of this support until the end of the Arbaeen ceremony, as part of government efforts to enhance the services provided to visitors.
A statement by the Bureau, followed by Al-Raya, stated, “The governorate sent in the first batch more than 70,000 cartons of water, in addition to 5,500 ice cubes, while the second batch included the distribution of about 551,000 cups of water and 1,998 ice cubes, in addition to what the Bureau provided of 37 transport buses, two heavy vehicles, and 63 employees to secure transportation operations and logistical support.”
He added, "The Basra Municipalities Directorate contributed to the campaign by sending 200 employees and allocating 92 various machines to support service work in the governorates that witness a density of visitors, while the Basra Municipality participated by sending 67 specialized machines and engaging 200 of its cadres in the field."
He continued, "The Basra Sewerage Directorate sent 10 specialized vehicles, 30 garbage compactors, 3 dumpers, 15 dump trucks, 6 container vehicles, and two water tankers, to support cleaning efforts and logistical services at visitor gathering sites."
The statement indicated that “the Civil Defense Directorate contributed by sending five ambulances, two stocker cranes, and two fire trucks, supported by 46 paramedics and technicians,” noting that “the Basra Health Department participated in medical efforts that included 12 doctors, 10 pharmacists, 10 laboratory technicians, 40 nursing staff, 7 administrators, and 3 dentists, in addition to 10 fully equipped ambulances.” Supplies, working around the clock to provide health care and immediate ambulance services along the visitors’ route.”
The Basra Governorate Office confirmed that these efforts come within the framework of joint coordination between government departments in the governorate, to ensure the provision of a safe environment and integrated services for millions of participants in the commemoration of the Arba’een of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, which is considered one of the largest human gatherings in the world.
