Today, the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee confirmed that it is following with great concern the death of psychiatrist Ban Ziad Tariq in Basra Governorate, and the shock and sadness it caused in medical and societal circles.

The committee stated in a statement followed by Al-Raya that it extends its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, her colleagues, and her patients, stressing the need to deal with the incident with all transparency and seriousness, and to urgently reveal its circumstances and causes, whether they were the result of health conditions, professional factors, psychological pressures, or others, through a professional and impartial investigation in which all competent authorities participate.

The committee called on the Ministry of Health and the Medical Syndicate to review the work environment in health institutions, and to ensure the provision of psychological and moral support to health sector workers, given the nature of their humanitarian role that requires special care and protection.

She pointed out that the increase in such incidents, the growing violations of women’s rights, the high rates of divorce, and the increasing social and psychological pressures represent a serious challenge, stressing the urgent need for the government to reconsider this issue and work to establish a special ministry concerned with women’s, family and childhood affairs, along the lines of successful international experiences.

The committee concluded its statement by emphasizing that protecting medical personnel, preserving women's rights, and addressing psychological and social pressures are a national and humanitarian duty, and that any negligence or negligence in this area is a violation of human rights and societal values, calling for awaiting the results of an urgent investigation into the incident.
