The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, stressed the necessity of not being drawn into malicious rumors, false accusations, and anything that exposes societal peace to harm, while he received a group of women activists and representatives of civil society organizations in Iraq.
Al-Sudani said, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Media Office followed by Al-Raya, that the most important feature of the democratic system in Iraq is the presence of civil society organizations, indicating the government’s support for the work of these organizations, especially those concerned with following up on women’s affairs, as they are an essential partner for the government and the Supreme Council for Women’s Affairs in implementing programs concerned with enhancing the role of women.
He added that advancing the status of women is not limited to the Supreme Council for Women, but rather extends to their active participation in building society, stressing that the government has been following up on the unfortunate accident of the late Dr. Ban Ziad since day one and directing the Ministries of Interior and Health to investigate it, as its results were handed over to the judicial authority, and the Basra Court relied on the professional investigation in issuing its decision, which enjoys the government’s support to protect women in Iraq.
The Prime Minister referred to support for women's organizations and initiatives related to women's development and employment, especially economic projects, stressing that the economic reforms implemented by the government are directly linked to social development. He also touched on the proposal to establish a fund to support women’s projects and organizations concerned with monitoring and developing them, stressing the importance of the work of these organizations to support the state, preserve the value system of society, and the effective participation of women in the political scene, especially in the upcoming elections, while following up on the affairs of female candidates.
