The Ministry of Water Resources revealed concrete efforts to save Basra Governorate from the water scarcity crisis.

The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, said in press statements followed by Al-Raya that the Al-Badaa Canal and water transport projects contributed to protecting the governorate from water risks, in addition to the start of the seawater desalination project that will feed Basra, Maysan, and Dhi Qar.

The minister explained that the ministry began projects to treat wastewater in five governorates, and adopted modern irrigation and laser land leveling, which contributed to saving about 30 percent of water, in addition to new irrigation experiments in Muthanna that contributed to reducing weeds.

He pointed out that relying on groundwater helped increase the area of ​​cultivated wheat, while sea desalination and water treatment projects work to alleviate scarcity and provide stable resources for Basra residents.
