Today, Friday, the Ministry of Interior announced the start of electronic signature within the passport system, stressing that the electronic housing project will bring about a qualitative shift in the management of citizens’ data.

The Director of Civil Status, Passports and Residency at the Ministry, Lieutenant General Nashaat Al-Khafaji, said in a statement followed by Al-Raya that the Ministry has begun adopting the national card data in the passport and national card systems, in implementation of the directives of the Minister of the Interior regarding exchanging data with other institutions in preparation for creating the digital identity and adopting it in government transactions.

Al-Khafaji explained that the new system issues the passport exclusively after an approved electronic signature, and that the national card is not activated except after the responsible employee has signed electronically within the system, noting that the ministry has provided huge data that other institutions can benefit from.

He stated that the Ministry has established the intermediate station that links the national card systems and the entities requesting data, which facilitates the exchange of information within minutes, and spares citizens the hassle of reviewing multiple departments, in implementation of the directives of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior to cancel breast authentication procedures.

Al-Khafaji concluded by saying that the Ministry is preparing new digital projects, the most prominent of which is the electronic housing project, which will reorganize residency data and bring about an important development in the field of digital management in Iraq.
