Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Planning announced a field follow-up of the project to establish a sewage treatment plant in the Basra District Center, stressing that the project is considered one of the strategic and vital projects in the governorate.

The Ministry stated in a statement received by Al-Raya that its specialized field teams conducted a visit to the project site to review the work stages and completion rates, noting that the project is being built on an area of ​​50 dunums, and includes preparing designs and implementing a wastewater treatment plant for the areas of Al-Maqal, Al-Tuba, and Al-Nakhila sectors, and all the secretions located between Muhammad Al-Qasim Street and Karma Ali.

The statement added that the project includes the implementation of integrated mechanical, electrical and civil works, and its design capacity is 157,500 cubic meters per day, to serve about 450,000 people in the center of Basra District, indicating that the current completion rate has reached about 11%, and it is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2028.

The Ministry confirmed that the project aims to treat wastewater and convert it into water suitable for agricultural use, which contributes to improving the environment and reducing pollution levels, in addition to preserving water resources, supporting the service reality of the population, and strengthening the infrastructure in the governorate.
