Today, the Mayor of Al-Zubair District clarified the circumstances of what was raised regarding an abandoned building designated for tuberculosis patients in the Khor Al-Zubair district, in response to a statement by the head of the Integrity Committee in the Basra Provincial Council, Bayda Al-Nahi.

The District Attorney stated in a statement that the building was constructed at the end of 2010 as part of a project implemented by a contracting party with the Ministry of Health, and included 14 similar buildings throughout Iraq, and under the direct supervision of the Ministry, that is, eight years before the current District Attorney assumed his duties.

The statement added that the project was not completed and the official handover procedures from the Ministry of Health to Khor Al Zubair Health Center were not completed for technical and financial reasons, pointing out that its condition is no different from dozens of suspended ministerial projects, which are subject to periodic visits from ministerial committees to review and submit reports on them.

The District Attorney confirmed that the ministerial projects do not fall within her administrative powers, as they are managed through supervision, follow-up and receipt committees affiliated with the relevant ministries, stressing that the aforementioned building was not among the social benefit projects for Al-Zubair district, contrary to what was stated in the circulating statement.

She called on the Mayor of Zubair District to adopt direct communication with her when inquiring about any information related to projects, and not to rely on inaccurate information circulated by some activists, in order to convey the facts to public opinion in a professional and reliable manner.
