The Security Committee of the Basra Governorate Council held an expanded meeting with the competent security and technical authorities, devoted to following up on the file of foreign arrivals and the mechanisms for auditing their official documents, in addition to diagnosing the obstacles that obstruct the work of the relevant departments, and discussing ways to prosecute those who violate residency conditions in accordance with legal frameworks.

The head of the Council’s Security Committee, Aqeel Talib Al-Fariji, said that the meeting dealt with evaluating the measures taken to follow up on foreign arrivals, and determining the level of coordination between the concerned authorities, as well as discussing the challenges facing auditing and legal prosecution operations.

Al-Fariji stated that the Chairman and members of the Governorate Council listened to a detailed briefing on the work mechanisms of the relevant sectors, especially with regard to regulating the presence of expatriates working in the commercial, health, tourism and investment sectors, noting that a number of proposals and observations were put forward aimed at developing institutional performance and enhancing joint coordination.

He stressed that the meeting stressed the need to deal seriously with the file of foreign arrivals, through careful scrutiny of identification documents, and the application of Iraqi laws in force against violators, in a way that achieves security requirements and regulates the foreign presence within Basra Governorate.
