The Deputy Chairman of the Basra Provincial Council, Osama Al-Saad, announced that the council decided not to accept the resignation of council member Ali Adnan, stressing that all members stand by him and support his position, and that the rejection of the resignation came unanimously within the council.

Al-Saad explained that the resignation step came against the backdrop of Ali Adnan’s feeling that he was exposed to abuse during his review of the Basra Court, as part of a lawsuit filed by the Director General of the Basra Health Department, where he was asked to give his statements regarding a specific case, pointing out that the delay that accompanied the lawsuit procedures was not justified.

He pointed out that Ali Adnan is performing his role as a representative of citizens and an elected member of the provincial council, and that the lawsuit filed against him relates to his official capacity, not his personal capacity, which requires dealing with him within this legal and institutional context.
