The Ministry of the Interior reported that a court ruling had been issued to imprisonment for fifteen years against one of the defendants, after he was convicted of carrying out the crime of “tribal raiding” by shooting at a citizen’s house, in behavior that the competent authorities considered a clear violation of the law and a direct threat to societal security.

The Ministry explained that the Central Criminal Court in Baghdad issued the ruling based on the provisions of Article Four and in accordance with Article Two of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. (13) of 2005, with the period of detention being calculated within the sentence period, and in accordance with the approved legal procedures and contexts.

The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the practices of “tribal raiding” are legally classified as terrorist crimes, due to the intimidation of the security forces and disruption of civil peace, stressing that these actions face severe penalties, and that the Ministry is continuing to take deterrent legal measures against anyone who attempts to impose influence by force or destabilize security and stability.

She also indicated that the Iraqi judiciary reserves the right of those affected to demand compensation before the competent courts after the ruling becomes final.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the rule of law and protecting citizens and their property, calling on citizens to report any practices outside the law, and not to be drawn into customs that conflict with the authority of the state and the law.
