The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Basra, Ali Abedi, announced that the joint security measures between Iraq and Iran contributed to controlling and pursuing arms and drug smuggling networks, stressing that the border strip between the two sides is under complete security control.

Abedi stated that the limited smuggling attempts are being carried out by outlaw parties, noting that security coordination between Baghdad and Tehran is taking place at high and continuous levels, which has made it possible to track these activities and thwart them in their early stages.

He pointed out that the two countries deal with these crimes as a direct threat to security and stability, explaining that joint plans between the Iraqi and Iranian security services continue to target smugglers and work to dismantle their networks and deprive them of sources of funding.

He explained that the security authorities in Iran carried out large-scale arrests against those involved in arms and drug smuggling, in parallel with the arrest of others by the Iraqi security forces, within the framework of bilateral cooperation to protect the borders and prevent their exploitation.

Abdi called on citizens to cooperate with the security services by reporting any suspicious movements or activities, stressing that strict legal measures will be taken against anyone who seeks to disturb the security of the two countries.
