The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Adnan Faihan Al-Dulaimi, confirmed that the sixth parliamentary session will witness a structural shift in the way parliamentary committees work, after years of organizational imbalances that affected the regularity of legislative and oversight performance within the House of Representatives.

Al-Dulaimi explained, during his chairmanship on Tuesday evening of the first meeting of the committee to amend the bylaws of parliamentary committees, that the proposed amendments are not limited to procedural changes, but rather aim to rebuild the work system of the committees in a way that ensures their stability, and ends the phenomenon of disruption of meetings and failure to achieve a quorum that accompanied previous sessions.

He stated that the current session will witness a deliberate reduction in the number of permanent committees, in addition to merging committees that are similar in specializations, in a way that achieves clarity in powers and enhances the efficiency of follow-up and oversight, stressing that this path will give the committees a greater ability to accomplish their tasks away from fragmentation and overlap.

The First Deputy indicated that the sixth parliamentary session will witness a redistribution of committee members according to standards of competence and specialization, ensuring a balance in membership and sustainability in performance, pointing out that this step represents a direct treatment of one of the most prominent reasons for the weakness of parliamentary work in the previous stages.

Al-Dulaimi stressed that the parliamentary committees represent the basic foundation of parliamentary work, stressing that the Bylaws Amendment Committee is continuing to complete the review of regulatory gaps, and that the results of these amendments will be reflected in a practical and tangible way on the performance of the House of Representatives during the current session.
