Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein placed the issue of nominating or reassigning Nouri al-Maliki within the internal framework subject to the constitution and political understandings, stressing that the decision in this regard is decided exclusively through Iraqi mechanisms.

In statements he made to Reuters, Hussein explained that the government is closely following the positions issued by the United States regarding this file, indicating that Baghdad takes these signals seriously in the context of its bilateral relations with Washington, without affecting the principle of independence of national decision-making.

At the level of regional relations, the Foreign Minister reiterated Iraq's refusal to resort to violence against Iran, stressing that Baghdad will not engage in any mediation role in the event of escalation of tension or the outbreak of a possible confrontation.

As for the American military presence, Hussein denied that there was any amendment to the withdrawal plans, indicating that the process is proceeding according to the announced schedule, and will be completed by the end of 2026.
