Member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Muhannad Aqrawi, confirmed that what he described as the American veto on Nouri al-Maliki’s nomination for prime minister represented the biggest problem in the current political scene.

Aqrawi said that nominating Al-Maliki without the approval of the United States, or moving towards an alternative candidate, is what will resolve the issue of electing the President of the Republic, noting that this file has gone beyond being an internal entitlement and has become linked to a clear American position.

He added that the Kurds respect the decision of the coordination framework to nominate Al-Maliki, but the US veto and a tweet by former US President Donald Trump have confused the political scene, warning that insisting on this option may lead to complete complexity in the Iraqi political situation.
