International calls to stop the escalation in Lebanon are increasing, in light of the continued Israeli raids on several areas, especially in the southern suburbs of Beirut and the south of the country, in conjunction with talk of American-Israeli understandings to separate the Lebanon front from the ongoing war between Iran and the United States.
Reports confirmed that a number of countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, Australia, and Britain, demanded that Lebanon be included in any ceasefire arrangements, considering that the continuation of military operations threatens to expand the circle of confrontation in the region.
During the past hours, Lebanon witnessed a new wave of Israeli raids that targeted various locations, amid reports of casualties and major damage to property and infrastructure, while displacement continued from the targeted areas towards safer areas.
Media sources indicated that the southern suburb of Beirut was subjected to intense bombardment, while strikes continued in southern Lebanon, amid warnings of deteriorating humanitarian conditions if the escalation continued.
According to what was stated in the report, Washington and Tel Aviv are moving to establish political and security understandings aimed at separating the Lebanese front from the American-Iranian war, which means that the ceasefire that was announced between Washington and Tehran does not include Lebanon.
Sources reported that Israel considers its operations against Hezbollah to continue and will not stop within any agreement that does not include new security arrangements on the Lebanese border.
On the other hand, Hezbollah announced the implementation of missile operations towards northern areas of Israel, stressing that this comes in response to the Israeli raids that targeted Beirut and other areas, which reflects the continued field tension and the possibility of expanding the scope of the confrontation.
These developments coincided with increasing fears of the escalation moving to a more severe stage, especially with the increase in mutual attacks.
On the diplomatic level, several countries stressed the need to stop the bombing and avoid Lebanon sliding into an all-out war, calling for restraint and opening the way for political endeavors.
It also called on international parties to respect international law and protect civilians, warning that continued bombing would lead to a rise in the number of victims and an exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis, in light of the difficult economic and living conditions that Lebanon has been experiencing for years.
This escalation comes at a sensitive time in the region after the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as observers believe that the continuation of the war in Lebanon may undermine efforts to calm the situation and reignite regional tensions again.
International bodies also fear that the continuation of the strikes will drag new parties into the confrontation, increasing the risk of a comprehensive explosion in the Middle East.
While international calls for calm continue, developments on the ground still indicate that the crisis in Lebanon is not yet heading towards a solution, with the continued Israeli bombing and Hezbollah’s responses, amid the absence of a clear agreement that includes Lebanon within the ceasefire arrangements.
